Hoy No Circula: Vehicle Restrictions

The "Hoy No Circula" program imposes restrictions on private vehicle traffic in Mexico City and the State of Mexico to cut pollutant emissions.

Hoy No Circula: Vehicle Restrictions

The "Hoy No Circula" program sets measures to restrict vehicle traffic with the aim of preventing, minimizing, and controlling pollutant emissions. To standardize and reduce impacts on the megacity – Mexico City and the State of Mexico – a rule limiting the circulation of private cars has been introduced, regardless of the origin of the license plates. Unlike the weekday program, on Saturdays the vehicles that cannot circulate are determined by the hologram and the last digit of the plate: even numbers (0,2,4,6,8) and odd numbers (1,3,5,7,9). This Saturday, cars with hologram 2 and out‑of‑state plates are prohibited. Vehicles with hologram 1, an even plate number, are also banned every second and fourth Saturday of the month, and out‑of‑state plates are barred on all Saturdays. The Saturday program runs from 05:00 to 22:00. Sunday is the only day without restrictions.
